Hunter Pace Results and News

Posted by Andrew on September 10, 2013

Hunter pace 1  was 4583 meters, close to 3 miles.

Hunter pace 2 will likely be longer and have update speeds:

  • Jump division will be 260 meter/min
  • Flat will be 200 meters/ min
  • Pleasure will be 160 meters per min

Jump is designed to canter fences and trot in between, flat is trot, canter and some walk breaks, and pleasure is walking and trotting.  plenty of time to check your maps.  The course is well marked, you can bring your maps.

If people can get their entries to Wendy by Thursday, they can request an approximate time to ride between 11 and 1:30.  Times will be up on the scoreboard and maybe the website by Saturday.

No official course walk but maps will be out there posted Saturday.  Wendy will try to be there between 3-5 to take entries on Saturday.

Hunter Pace 2 will have a Tailgate Party!  EHSC will provide Hot Dogs.  Please bring a dish to pass.

Are you looking for some help with your horse, or having training issues? Or maybe you just want to bring your horse to the club grounds and ride around the fields. Well, here is your opportunity!! The Erie Hunt & Saddle Club is hosting an overnighter for members. It will be held the weekend of August 3rd and 4th. On Saturday evening the barns will open at 4:00pm for horses to move in. Participants are expected to bring all of their own supplies. Camping is allowed. You will need to have adult supervision for those under 18 years of age.

EHSC will be providing complementary hotdogs and beverage for a potluck picnic on Saturday, August 3rd, the day before the clinic, for all members at 6:30pm!  Truck in for the picnic and enjoy some riding while there.

Please click here for more information on the clinic and the application.

Due to the amount of rain and the conditions of the grounds, the Mini Trial scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2013, has been changed to a Combined Test.  The entry fee is $35 and all divisions will remain the same except that a Novice Division has been added.

You may ride in up to two divisions per horse and two horses per rider.

Extra jumping rounds will be available at the Combined Test for $10 per round.  Your first round at your Division height will count towards your Combined Test score.  You may do a schooling round at any height, lower as warm up or higher for the experience.  You can pay the day of the show and we will let the Stadium know.   Any questions, please email Sue Strohmeyer at judgesued@aol.com.

The dressage test for the Novice Division will be USEA Eventing Novice Test B.

For those who have already sent your entry, you will be entered in the division you signed up for and will receive a refund less $35.  The Erie Hunt and Saddle Club regrets having to cancel the cross country, but we cannot jeopardize the horses, competitors or the grounds.  If you have questions, please contact Sue Strohmeyer at:

 judgesued@aol.com or phone 814-450-6618.

Upcoming July 2013 Show Highlights

Posted by Andrew on July 1, 2013

July promises to be a busy month at EHSC. We have a full slate of show on the calendar with everything from hunters to a schooling mini trial, and from dressage to games!

On July 6 & 7, Horse Sports in Erie and EHSC will be combining their efforts to offer a weekend of hunter shows with divisions from Walk-Trot to 3' Hunters -- here's your opportunity to get that "Big Hunter" show feeling at a local show all while supporting EHSC. The weekend will feature a $250 Horse Sports Hunter Derby on Saturday, and the Francis Gannon Memorial Medal,  a $150 Pleasure Stake, and a $100 Jackpot Egg & Spoon Class all on Sunday!!!

July 14th's Fun Show is your opportunity to breakaway from your usual competitive discipline and express your inner "gamer" side.  This show offers all the traditional games classes plus numerous "fun" games that can be shown in either western or english tack. In addition, many of the games have a separate Walk-Trot division! This show is fast becoming a favorite with many of our members...after all, it is the Fun Show.

Lastly, the weekend of July 20 & 21 will feature our Dressage Show II and Mini Trial. Here's another gas-saver weekend with Dressage Show II during the day on Saturday followed by cross-country schooling for the Mini Trial in the evening and the Mini Trial on Sunday!!! The dressage show offers USDF Intro Tests, USEF Training Level and First Level Tests, and both USEA and USEF Rider's Choice. While the Mini Trial offers divisions with jump heights from 1' - 1'6" to 2'0" - 2'7". Entries for both shows are currently open and are scheduled to close on July 13th.

Additional information is available on on the Schedule page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the show managers or any board member. We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our shows!

Have a great day,
Erie  Hunt & Saddle Club

PS - It's not too late to signup for our Year-End Awards!

Letter From Nell Hardy

Posted by Andrew on October 22, 2012

Thank you thank you thank you! Everyone was so kind to help with the benefit horse show. Even the weather cooperated with no rain and occasional glimpses of the sun.

It's now been three years since I sat on a horse and even longer since I've competed. But I still think of horses every day and smile over one or two equine memories. I've ridden since age four so there's plenty to choose from!

I am so honored and thankful to those who helped with the horse show. With the proceeds I was able to get a wonderful recliner with heat and massage. It is awesome! Stop by and give it a try! Because of your generosity I will also be able to have my wheelchair accessible van tweaked, lubed and serviced. It has to make it through another Erie winter to April, when it's time to head to Rolex again!

Thanks again for all your hard work!

-Nell Hardy
